Editorial Photography Phoenix Az of Lucha Libre Wrestlers
These editorial photographs are part of my Wrestlers/Lucha Libre project. In case you didn't know, Lucha Libre is a form of wrestling originating in Mexico, characterized by wrestlers wearing masks and performing high flying acrobatic moves. The Lucha Libre wrestlers that I shot were shot at The El Mercado Arena, an arena in the middle of The El Mercado, the largest Hispanic Swap Meet in Phoenix. The gentleman on the top in blue is Mr Galaxy-he's a t'ecnico (technician) or good guy. He really is a good guy too, I've never met such a large, gentle, well mannered man-outside of the ring that is! The next gentleman is Cassandro, a transvestite Lucha Libre from Mexico, quite well known there. Cassandro has had to overcome a lot of discrimination, as he did not hide who he was in Lucha Libre but in fact flaunted it, and has become a much loved wrestler in the sport. I didn't know all this when I met Cassandro, I just knew I had to take his picture -I had to go on google to find out about him. You should try it-it's a great story! Cassandro was a really nice guy, and great to shoot. There's more wrestlers to check out on my website if you like at www.brendanmoorephoto.com , I hope you get the chance to, it's a lot of fun.
